  • No.

And if you make it, it will be brigaded.

  • Not a movie, but Unsolved Mysteries.

I was absolutely terrified of being abducted by aliens. would have a panic attack anytime i heard a weird noise or a weird light or a low flying plane at night in by bedroom.

  • You think Microsoft considered you a stakeholder when they released MS-DOS in 1981?

Customers aren't stakeholders. They are customers. Your understand of economics and business here seems to be a lot of idealistic projection about how things should be, not how they are/were.

No idea what you are on about. Every product I use in the IT space is continually getting better than it previously was. Just because folks are mad things like subscription models doesn't mean they are offering an inferior product. You never owned software in the first place, it was always a limited license. True that the 'illusion' of you owning it is gone in a subscription model because it's no longer on a physical disk, but legally it's the same.

What customers want is irrelevant and often erroneous. Most of my users say they want x, but if you given them x they freak out, and if you give them y they are happy, because well, they don't know what they want and they especially don't know what is good for them. It's my job as their admin to make those choices for them. They mostly just hate change, even if the change benefits them overwhelmingly and have nostalgia for old inefficiencies that benefited nobody.

  • You're confusing technology and politics.

Tech is always getting better. You just are getting as many of the fruits of those advancements due to politics and economic policies deriving form those politics.

analog wasn't better, it was that economic policy was different. the 1980s economy was vastly different than the economy we have today.

but keep insulting me if makes you feel better I guess? clearly I'm ignorant and if we go back to tapedecks instead of spotify that would somehow mean billionaires would stop existing or something... I mean, yeah, please go out and buy one of those retromod tapedecks they sell on for $200 if you want, that will surely 'show' Bezos or something...

  • any economic slowdown lowers emissions, yes.

  • and what happens when my axioms are in conflict with yours?

or my axiom is self interest above all else, such that hypocrisy is useful tool to manipulate others?

call me names all you want if it makes you feel better, is that one of your axioms? mock anyone who asks you a question that challenges your assumption?

  • You mean people should help you afford recreational drugs and a gaming PC?

You are the problem with the world. It's ok, you're in good company though, most folks think exactly the way you do. Everything is about them and their struggles, and nobody had it harder than them. Doesn't matter if they make 5,000, or 5,000,000 a year... the song and dance is exactly the same. No matter how poor or how rich it's always 'give me your money, I deserve it more than you do'.

I have volunteered. A lot of people in those situations are not suffering, they are just piece of shit who have chosen a life of exploitation rather than being productive members of society. A grifter is a grifter, whether they are homeless or Donald Trump.

You sound a lot like Trump, just scale everything up a few powers of ten.

  • Also... just look at people who self-diagnose via WebMD, or self diagnose their mental illness via online quizzes...

  • you comment and let people downvote you, or harass you.

    then you can block them.

  • No.

    Convenience is king.

Analog tech is inherently slower, more expensive, etc.

This is like asking if farming by hand is better than farming using machinery.

The only reason people think this is way is because they didn't live through analog tech, for them it is retro or nostalgia and they romanticize it because when they do use it, there are no downsides.

Just like the people who think farming by hand is better than farming with machinery are people who don't farm, or they are those investment banking types who 'retired' to go start a farm in upstate NY for fun and pretend it's a viable commercial enterprise.

  • No.

reddiquette was always a joke, and it only kind of made sense when reddit was a homogeneous userbase of young nerds who were actually idealistic. once reddit became a target for interest groups, marketers, and etc redditique was just virtue signalling/plausible deniability.

any moral code falls apart as soon you have participants who are willing to exploit it rather than honor it.

the base code of redditiquttee was 'remember the human', well you can't exactly do that if your belief-set active denies the humanity of other people, which is how most average folks operate, and typically folks are only capable of abstract respect for other people who share their pre-existing biases and beliefs, which is precisely why reddit worked well when it was a bunch of 20/30 something college-educated male techie libertarians, but once it diversified that quickly fell apart. in a diverse environment people won't disagree with your ideas, they will disagree with your existence.

like colleges have honor codes, and those work mostly because the population of a college is self-selected and mostly demographically homogeneous, but if you are visibly distinct from other students at the college, the honor code won't apply to you.

  • Not being able to afford first class plane tickets isn't suffering.

But lots of folks seem to think it is.

Just like the weirdos here who think the world is abusing them because the price of RAM went up and and their $3000 Gaming PC is now $5000.

This idea that everyone is 'suffering' is so utterly absurd and akin to hippies thinking we are all 'unenlightened' because we're not constantly tripping balls on lsd.

Have you ever been hungry? slept in the freezing cold? lived without medical or dental care? That is legitimate struggle and suffering. Not being a whiny bitch about how you're not rich enough to afford luxuries that could feed people for years...

truth is maybe if folks did legit suffer they'd have more perspective on life. Daddy not buying you a Porsche for your birthday isn't suffering, Daddy beating you on your birthday for wanting a birthday cake is. And sadly way too many people can't seem to understand the difference anymore.

  • i want something that was reddit circa 2007-2013.

lots of nerdy cool stuff without the politics.

lemmy is too politics and not enough nerdy stuff.

  • past couple of years most of my ability to socialize has collapsed because I can't relate to other folks anymore.

mostly because they are miserable and I am not. and they think I'm miserable because I'm not agonizing about the things they agonize about endlessly, so we are just never going to find common ground. and i come across like a massive arrogant douchebag because I'm doing well where they are struggling. and what alienates me more is... the are not legitimately struggling in any way... but they have convinced themselves nobody has it worse than them... it's just insufferable IMO. and often they are actually doing way better than I am... but think they are doing worse...

i also lost like a dozen friends since the end of covid, because they went insane, but they are more 'normal' than I am because well, a lot of people went insane from covid and I legit loved it and came out way better off.

i also can't relate to gen z and how totally miserable they are. even my own nephews/nieces all they want to do is agonize about how awful their life is and will be... despite objectively them being incredibly well off...

and i see a lot of this attitude all over the internet endlessly, which also sucks.

  • my father said you are gay if you don't like sports and you read books.

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

What is the deal with "peptides"?

  • oh, praytell us wise sir, what are these 'root axioms' from which you are so intelligent?

  • I had a co-worker I reported for SH. Turns out other folks hare reported her too. She got fired.

My complaint was the one that got her fired. She had 3 other complaints already from 3 other folks.

Some people have told me I am a 'snitch' for doing it. But guess what, my workplace is a lot more pleasant with that person gone than it was the year they were around...

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

Have you been sexually assaulted or coerced into sex?
